After a sausage, bacon and egg buttie from Peveril stores, as far as I can tell the main reason TSG are based where they are. Alastair, Luke and another new TSG member also named Luke joined us in the kitchen. The planned location changed about 3 times, but we settled on a trip to Whalf Climbing Shaft near Monyash. This was to be my first SRT trip and new Luke's first Caving trip.
Hillocks/Whalf Mine
When the Walf Engine Shaft was finally capped by Crewe in the late '90s, it became obvious pretty quickly that a "one-way exchange" was possible, whereby you could nip into Hillocks and pre-rig the hand-picked shaft, and then everybody could abseil down the engine shaft and surface via Hillocks - the lower Hillocks pitch being avoided by squeezing through to the parallel shaft and free climbing this. And this became quite a popular evening exercise - and still is a nice trip for any number of cavers.

Met at the Chapel for breakfast and sorted out the ropes for Whalf Shaft and Hillocks Engine. We then travelled in two cars over to Monyash. I rigged the Engine Shaft and then we went down to Whalf so that Alan could finish of the Mine Stabilisation project before we proceeded to help Sam on his first proper SRT trip. Unfortunately we forgot the camera so we will have to go back at some point.
